Forestar is committed to maximizing long-term shareholder value.
Our mission is to create significant value for our shareholders, customers, partners and employees by growing our business and generating the greatest benefit from each and every acre of our land.
Today, we own directly or through ventures about 159,000 acres of real estate located in 9 states and 12 markets, and approximately 602,000 net acres of oil and gas mineral interests.
Our real estate and natural resources, in combination with our strategy, financial strength, management expertise, stewardship and continuous reinvestment in our business, uniquely position Forestar to maximize long-term value now, and well into the future.
We maximize real estate value through the entitlement and development of strategically-located residential and mixed-use communities - delivering thoughtful plans and balanced solutions to meet the needs of the communities where we operate. We are predominately focused on first and second move-up developments - the largest segments of the new-home market - targeting lot sales to homebuilders with reputations for quality products and proven sales and marketing programs.
Commercial tracts are either sold to, or ventured with, commercial developers specializing in the construction and operation of income-producing properties. We also sell commercial land to national retailers, and own and manage projects both directly and through strategic venture partnerships.
We own approximately 114,000 acres located in a broad area around Atlanta, with the balance located primarily in Texas. We have 16 real estate projects in the entitlement process, and 75 entitled, developed or under development projects in 7 states and 11 markets.
Our mineral resources segment realizes value through lease revenues, royalties and additional participation in production from our oil and gas interests in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia. Historically this business has required low capital investment and generated significant cash flow.
Our fiber resources segment sells wood fiber from our undeveloped land and manages it for future real estate development and conservation. Additional value is created through recreational leases, mitigation banks and water rights.
